Over time Kinokophone have gathered a collection of sounds from around the world; little universes captured digitally onto plastic cards. In an exploration of this immense, continuously changing and growing archive of sound spores, they aim to bring parts of this collection together in an installation that explores sounds as objects of value, or unique records of time and place that are worth recording, preserving and displaying. As sound recordists, they wish to address the associations between the initial motivation in collecting a sound and its value as an individual memory, free from fulfilling a specific role within a given project. We want to share our collections and present our research findings by creating an interactive and engaging work for everyone to enjoy.

Kinokologue features work made in collaboration with my lovely friend and artist Akiko Yanagimoto, who has responded to our recordings with her intricate embroidery work.
